It takes more than just a luthier
Every Turnstone acoustic guitar is shaped by a small team working closely together, combining creativity, skill, and care in every instrument we build.
Each member of our small team brings unique expertise and a shared commitment to the highest standards of lutherie. Our backgrounds in design, craftsmanship, and technical precision come together in every handmade acoustic guitar, blending traditional methods with considered modern processes. Guided by a love of music, we continually refine our approach so that each Turnstone is as inspiring to play as it is beautiful to hold.
The people behind the guitars are just as important as the instruments themselves. From the first sketch to the final polish, we work closely at every stage to ensure no detail is overlooked. This dedication is what makes every Turnstone guitar unmistakably its own, crafted to inspire, to endure, and to elevate the playing experience for generations to come.
As the creative heart of Turnstone, Rosie guides every instrument from concept to completion with uncompromising precision. She first studied guitar building in London before honing her skills through repair work on Denmark Street and an apprenticeship with an established luthier. With more than fifteen years’ experience and a deep knowledge of tonewoods, she brings rare sensitivity to the sound, feel, and aesthetics of each handmade acoustic guitar.
Her connection to music began long before Turnstone. While at university she played in a band, even performing at the legendary Cavern Club, an experience that deepened her appreciation for the bond between player and instrument. That perspective continues to shape her work today, ensuring that every Turnstone feels alive in the musician’s hands.
Karl ensures every Turnstone moves seamlessly from concept to completion through a focus on precision, process, and detail. After two decades in IT, he brought his technical expertise into the workshop and now oversees CAD design, CNC machining, spray finishing, procurement, and administration.
Since joining full-time in 2021, Karl has helped refine and streamline the way Turnstone guitars are built, combining technology with a respect for traditional lutherie. Whether programming a CNC cut or perfecting a lacquer finish, his aim is the same: to deliver instruments of the highest quality. And yes, a well-made coffee still fuels the process.
